During the Revolution, the Place de la Concorde played host to the guillotine and saw the heads of many nobles roll including those of Marie-Antoinette, Louis XVI, Danton, Robespierre and many thousands more. Louis XV's statue also fell during the Revolution and was replaced in 1836 by the current Obelisk of Luxor.
